Wikipedia says chaos theory is a field of study in mathematics, physics, economics and philosophy studying the behavior of dynamical systems that are highly sensitive to initial conditions. Good that they have mentioned it for philisophy also. When we use the term philosophy here it means there is some human behaviour and a human participation is also included in it.

Dasaavataram, a most hyped movie in tamil film industry claimed that its core theme was about this chaos theory. Chaos theory is other wise called " the butterfly effect"

So now what is this Butterfly effect means. Again using the help of wiki - here we go

"A small differences in the initial condition of a dynamical system may produce large variations in the long term behavior of the system".

A chaos theory also may happen in a company. I guess now im making some sense to the subject.

Previously i had discussed about various reason an employee stay and the company need to concentrate to make an employee love an organisation. We called it as internal branding or investing on your employees.

Lets take a company having a small size of 50 employees. Over a period of time there is some bonding created between all these employees dominating their emotional instinct. The attachment between the indiduals become dominating. Take me wrong or whatever.. This majorly happens in the female gender. So hence in the volume of 50 numbers, there would be a group of 15 friends who are attached. In that 15 numbers you may have one or two initiators or ideal leaders for the entire group. One morning the leader decides to quit the job for some reason. The remaining 14 starts to have a fear, not just a single tupe of fear. One they fear of an emotional attachment leaving them and second if the initiator it self is leaving there is something wrong in thier existence.

Belive me or not, in the remaining 14 atleast 10 would update thier profile in their portals.* ( Still yahoo and google has the best employee satisfaction practice where there is less chance of fear occuring for an employee) . so as that 10 apply and puts their paper down it will create a first chaos in thier company. The remaining 35 would see this group for the first time as what is happening. Hence they also conclude that there is some problem internally and lets be cautious. Here goes another 10, and the chain goes on.

Here is now the real challenge starts for the company. It is not easy for them to recruit another big team when there is no size availbale internally. Anyone fears to join such company.

Is it possible to avoid such Chaos. YES! We all did see a movie called chak de india. The coach tries to break the group to make them close with the other members of team. This is a stratergy used in most colleges to avoid students forming a group by putting them in cross sections.

Cross Team gaming method can be implemented.

A the last and foremost thing a HR need to know is to predict this chaos. If he does not have that instinct then he does not deserve to be a HR person. There are HR managers who does not move from their cabin. Though the HR department is the only non revenue generating department, if it is not able to predict a Butterflys wing then it would end up the most cost generating department.

Internal Branding..

Friday afternoon a shocking news spread across Bangalore. It was a suicide by one of the employee of India's largest IT company in its ITPL campus. All over the news comes up as stress and pressure by the company was the reason for his death. Many other of my friends from the same company has said to me similar stories about the pressure and pain they go through. Is it the company which has to re frame their policies ? or is it because the company has over promised their delivery time to their customers and adding on the pressure to its own employees? or is it what it is!!

There is a small relativity to the above incident and about the concept of Internal branding. A company do spend lots and lots of money to build its brand name in the market. Say in the name of promotions, activities, charity etc to attract clients and customers. Today most are proud to say that they have bought a Adidas Shoe. This is the brand impact created. But Adidas should make sure people working inside should feel proud about its working environment.

Creating a internal Branding is like bringing up a child in a competitive environment. You cant be too strict you cant be too loose. Being too strict, you face attrition and being too loose you end up a joke of the decade or the employees making a mess of the system.

What do a company need to concentrate mainly to develop a good Internal Branding:

Before getting in to those let me make one thing clear. Employee benefits is different from Internal branding.

1. Communication: You need to segment your internal employee group as you segment your customers and communicate accordingly . Again here it should not end up as discrimination. I mean to say the process of communication differs.

2. Say for Eg. Your brand communicates that you are customer centric , make sure your employees understand what it means. Also create an environment where they can give proper time to interact with the customers. A company giving only pressure can to its employee then the impact will fall on the customers too,

3. I also believe a employee would bad mouth a company for one and only reason...... Salary.
Lets take an example of a movie which was made 2 years before and it was not out in the market because of few reasons. And finally comes to the theater. There would be no hype, need, expectations or liking to see that movie, because it has lost its importance. Same way a company paying either 1000 or 10000 should make it a benchmark by paying it on the salary day.

The above reason is like a "butterfly effect theory". I pay the salary for an employee on 15th, cause he did not perform or there was no cash reserve. The employee stops performing from day 3 as there was no money for his work. He ends up bad mouthing about the company to his peers and friends. Result is the performance of the entire group getting affected.

3. One of my friends brother got a laptop for his best performance in his company for that year. He would have been happy. But the management posted him 10000 times about giving that laptop and saying " now are you happy" " you must be happy". Serve someone and don't tell it. A good service will come out automatic.

so hence it is not only your Exit interview, stay interview or your employee training which is going to build up a strong Internal brand.

Networking through Networking sites

Orkut met a great controversy in recent times for its abusive and misguided community! The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority was very strict in act on Face book ( other networking sites too). The controversy goes on with all other networking sites.

Any Subject being a topic of controversy it means that it has a great marketing value. Lets take an example. Shilpa shetty ( actress) She made a best use of her controversial value. The outcome was so many stage shows, yoga videos, etc and minted money out it. Now back again to our theme- Social Networking site being making a huge controversy across the globe still acts as a great marketing tool and what not.....it acts as a great HR tool also.

If a guy can find his first crush in Orkut with just her name as a clue, why cant he source a candidate for an requirement.

Orkut for Recruitment:
How many of us use Orkut for promoting a service or advertise or even to source a candidate??

For those who want to know ....here is how it goes!

1. Once you Log in to your account, on your home page left bottom you find a option called "Promote".Do click it.

2. Orkut does not charge you for using this application as facebook or Linkedin does.. You can Proceed with the go and draft a advertisement in it with a suitable picture or draft a job opening and click promote for the same.

3. Likewise again Orkut does not limit you for the number of Promo you do. Also you can keep a track of your Promo. Just like Facebook if some one clicks like of your advertisement it flows to a larger network.

4. Orkut also provides the statistics of your Advertisement.

I may quote the term promotion or advertising here but lets not stick with the same. This can be done for sourcing also. The below picture shows how the statistics looks!

You can see how effective and also how many have trashed my campaign.

One thumb rule to be noted if you want your social networking site to be used at its best. "YOU NEED TO HAVE A LARGE AND GOOD NETWORKS"

In a week we ll see how to use Linkedin and facebook in for developing networks for recruitment.

CONFUCIOUS

Choose a Job You will love, You would never have to work a Day in your Life.
